Stockton Wins Home Opener in 5-0 Rout

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-2) played their first home match this season and won in dominating fashion, by a 5-0 score over Marywood University  (0-2) on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Christian Bik (Vineland/St. Augustine) led the Ospreys with a pair of goals on the day, as Stockton outshot the Pacers 19-1 with 13 attempts on net.

Stockton started the scoring at 11:51 of the first half, when freshman Villy Fortulus (Winslow Twp. /Winslow Twp.) took a long feed from Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts. /Hasbrouck Hots.) and scored his third goal for a 1-0 advantage. In the 30th minute, Gjeli blasted a shot that was kicked away, but it deflected to Andrew Griggs (Galloway/Absegami). His first tally as an Osprey made it a two-goal margin.

With less than eight minutes before half, Bik tallied his first of the year from Jake Treiber (Marlton/Cherokee) for a 3-0 lead that took the teams to the break. Just 1:32 into the second half, Bik nailed his second of the day, on a free kick from 20 yards out, to make it 4-0 and put the game out of reach.

Bobby Riordan (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) set the final score at 5-0 with his first of the year in the 60th minute. Stockton had every available field player see action after the final goal.

Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) played the first 45 minutes and earned his second win of the year, making one save. Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep) started the second half playing 27:55, before giving way to Travis Yates (Washington Twp. /Washington Twp.) who finished the match. Neither goalie had to make a save in the final period.

Mike Gallagher took the loss for the Pacers in net, making eight saves.

Stockton will have a quick turnaround as they face unbeaten (3-0) Franklin & Marshall tomorrow afternoon. Game time is set for 1 pm in Lancaster, PA.
