Stockton Topped by Montclair State

Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (4-12, 1-8 NJAC) continued a stretch of four out of five on the road with a 73-49 setback in a conference matchup at Montclair State (11-5, 7-2). The Ospreys were within single digits in the first half but the Red Hawks pulled away in the second half.
 
April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) paced Stockton with 13 points followed by Natalie Miller (New Milford/New Milford) and Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) with 10 points apiece. Donzanti went 6-8 at the line and also pilfered a game-high four steals while Peterson grabbed five rebounds.
 
After surrendering the first seven points of the game, the Ospreys battled back to within 11-8 led by Peterson with five markers. Stockton was as close as 16-14 after a layup by Kirsten Flournoy (Sewell/Timber Creek), but Montclair State answered with a three-pointer for a 19-14 count after one quarter.
 
The Ospreys stayed within striking distance throughout the second period. Donzanti sank a jumper with 1:36 left in the half that made it 29-26 in favor of the Red Hawks. The home team then scored the last five points of the period to make it 34-26 at intermission.
 
Montclair State hit a jumper 12 seconds into the second half, upping the margin to 10 at 36-26, and the gap stayed at double digits for the rest of the game as the Red Hawks asserted themselves. The score was 47-37 after two Donzanti free throws at the 26-second mark of the third quarter but Julia Sutton's three-pointer at the buzzer made it 50-37.
 
The Ospreys were outscored 23-12 in the fourth period. Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) scored four of her six points in the final stanza but Stockton fell 73-49.
 
Alex McKinnon and Taylor Brown led Montclair State with 16 points apiece and Sutton tossed in 12 markers.
 
Stockton will be on the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at The College of New Jersey at 6 pm.
