Stockton Wins Third Straight Game 53-43

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-8) jumped out to an early lead and forged a 53-43 victory over Marywood (4-8) in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night.  Freshman Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms River South) led the Ospreys with 20 points and tied for game-high honors with three assists on the evening. It was the Ospreys' third consecutive victory.
 
The home team started by getting off to a 13-8 lead after one period with Donzanti tallying four of her markers. The Pacers closed the margin to 25-19 at the half on the strength of a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Stockton's defense held the visitors to just 14.8% (4-27) shooting from the field during the first 20 minutes of play.
 
The Ospreys came out in the third frame scoring the first six points to stretch the advantage to 31-19 on baskets by Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City), April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point and Mckenna Forry (Waterford/Hammonton). Peterson would add six more markers as the Ospreys finished the quarter leading 42-28.
 
The Pacers closed the gap in the final quarter, outscoring Stockton 10-2 in a little over four minutes, making it an eight-point game at 46-38 with 5:44 remaining in regulation. But after a Stockton timeout, three quick points by Donzanti put the lead at 51-38 and Stockton was able to hold on from there, setting the final score at 53-43.
 
Peterson backed up Donzanti with 13 points, a team-high nine rebounds and three helpers. Forry and Wright each grabbed six rebounds, with Wright swatting a game-high three blocks.
 
Aryah Aungst topped Marywood with 14 points while teammate Natasha Hessling pulled down a game-high 11 boards.
 
Stockton will return to NJAC play on Saturday, when the ospreys will travel to Jersey City to face New Jersey City. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
