Camden, NJ – Stockton University (5-14, 2-10 NJAC) took the lead late in the second quarter and never gave it up over the last 21 minutes on the way to a 73-66 victory in an NJAC road game at Rutgers-Camden (11-8, 6-6). The Ospreys shot 60.7% from the floor in the second half to stay in front.
After going scoreless in the first half,
Raquel Harris-Scott (Pine Hill/Overbrook) went 8-9 from the floor in the second half and finished with a team-high 17 points.
Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) chipped in with 15 points, a game-high eight assists and a team-high four steals.
Two Ospreys registered double-doubles in the win.
Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds for her first college double-double.
April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) tallied 12 points and 11 boards for her second straight double-double and sixth of the season. Peterson added four assists and three steals as well.
Stockton fell behind 16-9 before a layups by Peterson and Donzanti closed the gap to 16-13 after one period. The margin was four or less throughout a tight second quarter. Wright followed a three-pointer from Donzanti with a jumper that gave the Ospreys a 29-28 edge and a Peterson bucket closed the half with Stockton on top 31-28.
Donzanti paced the Ospreys with 13 points and Peterson scored eight markers as the duo combined for 21 of their team's 31 first-half points. Peterson also grabbed eight rebounds and Donzanti dished five assists before the break.
The score remained close in the third quarter, with Stockton extending to a 48-42 lead on a layup by Wright. Rutgers-Camden scored five of the next seven counters to trim the advantage to 50-47 heading in the fourth period.
The final quarter belonged to Harris-Scott and
Madison Noordeloos (Hawthorne/Hawthorne). Harris-Scott scored 11 points and Noordeloos came alive with seven markers as the pair accounted for 18 of Stockton's 23 points in the stanza. The Ospreys scored the first eight points for their biggest lead of the night at 58-47 and kept the cushion at seven or more the rest of the way for the 73-66 triumph.
Rutgers-Camden's Fatimah Williams led all players with 23 points followed by Wykira Johnson-Kelly with 15 markers and Gabby Greene with 12. Johnson-Kelly and Williams grabbed 11 and 10 rebounds respectively.
Stockton returns home to host William Paterson in an NJAC game at The Sports Center on Saturday at 1 pm.
