Galloway, NJ – A pair of Stockton University men's lacrosse players, defender
Colin Wharton (Cinnaminson/Camden Catholic) and midfielder
Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon), were chosen as
2019 Division III Preseason All-America Honorable Mention players by Inside Lacrosse Magazine. Both Ospreys were USILA All-America Honorable Mention selections following the 2018 season.
Wharton, a senior, garnered his second consecutive Preseason All-America Honorable Mention recognition from Inside Lacrosse. Last year, he started all 16 games and helped the Ospreys to 12 wins and their first ECAC Championship since 2002 with his outstanding defensive play.
Wharton totaled 43 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, both good for third on the team. He also tallied the first two goals of his career and dished one assist. Wharton grabbed at least one ground ball in every contest, including a season-high six against McDaniel. He is the only player in Stockton history with two USILA All-America Honorable Mention accolades.
Gallo became the fourth Osprey to be selected as a pre-season All-American, joining his teammate Wharton (2018-19) plus
Nick Bologno (2015) and Scott Berkheimer (2005). Last year, he topped the team with 22 assists and scored 23 goals for 45 points.
Gallo's showed his all-around game by scooping 35 ground balls, fifth on the team, and causing seven turnovers on the way to USILA All-America Honorable Mention status. His best outing came against DeSales when he scored five of Stockton's six goals in regulation, including the game-tying tally with two seconds left, and then assisted on the game-winner in a 7-6 victory.
Gallo has been remarkably consistent in his three seasons in Galloway, with 82 goals and 69 assists for 151 points plus 127 ground balls to his credit. He already ranks seventh all-time in assists at Stockton and is positioned to break into the top 10 in school history in goals and points this year.
