Stockton Knocks Off First-Place Rowan 58-52

Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (6-15, 3-11 NJAC) erased a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring Rowan 31-15 in the second half to post a 58-52 upset of the Profs (13-8, 11-3), who are in first place in the NJAC. The Ospreys went 24-30 (80%) at the free throw line, outscoring Rowan 24-7 at the stripe.
 
Freshman Molly Collins (Lacey Twp./Donovan Catholic) spurred the comeback with a career-high 10 points in 14 minutes during the second half. Collins was 5-5 at the line. Natalie Miller (New Milford/New Milford) hit three three-pointers for nine points while Raquel Harris-Scott (Pine Hill/Overbrook) added nine points and eight rebounds.
 
Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) scored eight points, grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and dished a team-high four assists. Madison Noordeloos (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) contributed to Stockton's success at the line by going a perfect 6-6.
 
Stockton stayed close for most of the first half until the Profs scored the last five points for a 19-12 count. The deficit reached 13 in the second period before Miller hit two straight threes to pull the Ospreys within 30-23.
 
After Rowan rebuilt a 12-point advantage, Harris-Scott hit a jumper in the closing seconds to make the score 37-27 in favor of the Profs at the break. Miller went 3-5 from behind the arc for nine points in the half and Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) added six markers.
 
Stockton chipped away at the margin throughout the third quarter, which ended with a basket by Kirsten Flournoy (Sewell/Timber Creek) with two seconds left that got the Ospreys within 46-43. Overall, the Ospreys outscored the Profs 16-9 in the period, led by Harris-Scott with five points.
 
The fourth quarter belonged to Stockton to the tune of a 15-6 advantage. Collins scored the first five points of the period to give the Ospreys a 48-46 edge and later hit three straight free throws after being fouled outside the arc to put Stockton up 53-48. A jumper by Harris-Scott gave the Ospreys their biggest lead at 55-48 with 2:39 remaining.
 
Rowan made a late charge with four straight points to make it a one-possession game at 55-52 with a minute to go. The Profs then missed their next three field goal attempts while Donzanti went 3-4 at the line to seal the 58-52 victory over an opponent that had routed the Ospreys 85-60 on December 5.
 
Stockton will host New Jersey City in a conference game at The Sports Center on Saturday at 3 pm.
