Galloway, N.J. – Three Stockton University student-athletes received NJAC weekly awards for their play from October 7-13. Juniors
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Sophia Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) were named NJAC Player of the Week and NJAC Defensive Player of the Week respectively for volleyball.
Sophomore
Sarah Richardson (Atco/Hammonton) was chosen NJAC Player of the Week in women's tennis. Sullivan earned her second NJAC honor this season while Marziello and Richardson picked up their first career selections.
Marziello had a tremendous week to help Stockton extend its winning streak to 13 with three victories. The junior served four aces in a sweep of Rutgers-Newark, then stepped up to scoop a career-high 36 digs in a five-set win over Christopher Newport. Marziello followed that up with a 22-dig effort with one ace and one kill in a 3-2 triumph over Salisbury.
Sullivan had another great week for the Ospreys as she led the team with 105 assists (8.08 aps) and added 14 kills, 32 digs, four blocks and four aces to help the Ospreys to a 3-0 week. The junior started the week with a 32-assist, five-kill effort against Rutgers-Newark then posted double-doubles against Christopher Newport (34 assists, 11 digs) and Salisbury (39 assists, 12 digs).
For the season, Sullivan ranks second in the NJAC in assists (9.24 aps) and fifth in hitting percentage (.321). She has dished at least 20 assists in every match this season and recorded nine double-doubles to spark the Ospreys to a 20-2 record.
Richardson finished up the fall season in style. Against Ramapo, she teamed with
Brianna McCarthy (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and then cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 5 singles.
Richardson posted a 7-1 mark in singles for the fall season, including winning her last six straight matches. The sophomore also topped the team with 10 doubles victories, eight of which came with McCarthy as her partner.
