Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (12-2, 2-2 NJAC) scored the go-ahead goal in the third quarter and held on for a 2-1 win over William Paterson (7-8, 0-4) in an NJAC road game.
Madison Dancisin (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) netted the game-winner for the Ospreys.
Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) scored her team leading 11th goal of the season and
Jennelle Long (Matawan/Matawan) assisted on both Stockton tallies.
Stockton was outshot 15-4 in the first half yet came away with a 1-1 tie at the intermission. Ospreys' goalkeeper
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) made five of her six saves in the half.
Morganti got the Ospreys on the board first with a shot from the middle of the arc with 6:19 left in the second quarter. Long fed Morganti for the goal. Three minutes later, William Paterson got the equalizer by Brianna Reyes for a 1-1 deadlock.
Stockton controlled the third quarter with a 6-2 advantage in shots. The Ospreys cashed in with 6:11 left in the period as Dancisin tipped in a ball from Long for her fourth goal of the season to put Stockton on top 2-1.
The teams combined for 15 shots in the fourth quarter, including 10 by the Pioneers as they pressed for the tying goal. WPU registered eight shots and four corners in the first five minutes of the period, but all of the tries were either wide or blocked. Gilligan made her only save of the second half with 3:14 remaining and Stockton prevailed 2-1.
Although William Paterson outshot the Ospreys 27-15 overall, each team finished with seven shots on goal. Pioneers' goalie Tara Weniger made five saves for the home team.
Up next, Stockton will host Wesley College in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
