Stockton Falls to Montclair State 2-0 in NJAC Semifinals

Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (14-4-3) saw its 2019 season come to an end with a 2-0 setback to No. 2 seed Montclair State (13-5-2) in the semifinal round of the NJAC Tournament. The Ospreys, the No. 3 seed, surrendered one goal in each half of the match.

The Red Hawks outshot Stockton 18-12, with Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) firing a game-high five shots for the Ospreys. LeDonne also accounted for two of Stockton's five shots on goal in the contest.

Each team registered six shots in the first half. Montclair State broke through for the first goal with just 2:05 remaining before halftime on a tally by Gabby D'Emlio. The marker snapped a shutout streak of 410 minutes by Ospreys' goalkeeper Jennifer Devault (Mullica Hill/Kingsway).

Stockton struggled to get anything going in the second half as they were doubled 12-6 in shots. An unassisted goal by Emily Beenders put Stockton behind 2-0 with 29:46 to play. The Ospreys attempted three shots the rest of the way, but they were unable to get on the board.

Devault finished with seven saves in the game, equaling her second-highest total of the season. The 18 shots by the Red Hawks tied the most allowed by Stockton all year. Montclair State goalie Lindsay Freewalt blanked the Ospreys with five saves.

Stockton finished the season with 14 victories, the team's highest win total since 2014. Stout defense was a key to their success as they posted shutouts in 12 of their 21 games and outscored their opponents 51-10 for the season.

The match was the final college game for seniors Juliann Gee (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson), Michelle Sander (Ewing/Notre Dame), Brenna Clowney (Mullica Hill/Clearview), Madison Dorney (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) and Sammi Goldberg (Manalapan/Manalapan).
