Ewing, N.J. – Stockton University (14-4) was eliminated from the four-team NJAC Tournament with a 4-0 setback to undefeated The College of New Jersey (17-0), which is ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Stockton was making its second straight NJAC Tournament appearance and just the third in the program's 17-year history (2013, 18-19). The Ospreys faced the top-ranked Lions for the second time in five days. The teams also met in the regular season finale on Saturday.
Stockton goalkeeper
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) made a career-high 17 saves as the Ospreys were outshot 31-5.
Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City) registered a team-high three shots, all of which were on goal.
Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) and
Shelby Scott (Salem/Salem) recorded one shot apiece.
TCNJ scored one goal in each of the first two quarters, the second of which came on a penalty stroke. The Lions added two more tallies in the last 13 minutes for the 4-0 final. Cayla Andrews scored three of the goals for a hat trick.
Stockton is declared for the ECAC Tournament, which the Ospreys won last year, and at 14-4 seems to be a likely candidate to be selected. All four of Stockton's losses have come against teams currently ranked in the top 10 of the NFHCA Division III national poll.
The ECAC Tournament bracket will be announced on November 11 and the games will be played on November 13, 16, 17.
