Montclair, N.J. – Sixth-seeded Stockton University (10-6-4) was tied with second-seeded Montclair State (15-4-1) into the second half but was eliminated from the NJAC Tournament with a 2-1 defeat in the semifinals. The result brought Stockton's 2019 season to an end.
Darnell Lopez (Paterson/St. Benedict's Prep) scored the lone goal for the Ospreys. Stockton outshot the Red Hawks 15-8 but got only one more shot on goal than the host team (4-3).
Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) led all players with five shots in the game.
The match was scoreless into the 43rd minute when Nixon Soglo got Montclair State on the board at 42:53. Just 59 seconds later, Lopez knotted the game for the Ospreys with his second goal of the season.
Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Heights/Hasbrouck Heights) picked up his fifth assist and 17th point, both team highs, on the play.
Stockton registered four of the first five shots of the second half but did not convert. MSU's Oscar Sanchez then put the Ospreys down 2-1 at 64:55. Stockton fired six shots in the last 25 minutes of regulation in an attempt to tie the game for the second time, however none of the tries made it on goal and Stockton fell 2-1.
Stockton reached double figures in wins for the second time in the last four years, finishing with 10 victories. The Ospreys were unbeaten at home (7-0-2), highlighted by a 1-0 upset of Franklin & Marshall in early September when the Diplomats were ranked 17th in the nation. F&M has just one other loss and is currently ranked fourth by the United Soccer Coaches.
