The Stockton women's tennis team added a pair of talented freshmen to its roster full of veterans, and the result was a 9-1 record during the fall season. An early setback to perennial NJAC powerhouse The College of New Jersey in the first week of the season was followed by an eight-match winning streak the rest of the way.
Â
Head coach
Harry Silverstein kept his singles rotation and top doubles pairing stable and relied on a mix-and-match approach at second and third doubles that saw several players contribute. The Ospreys won seven matches by 9-0 shutout and also finished second in the NJAC with a 5-1 conference record. Silverstein was rewarded with the NJAC Coach of the Year honor.

Senior
Brenna Samuels led Stockton with a 13-1 singles record. Samuels reeled off 12 straight wins, four of which came at the Goucher Invitational as she won Flight D for the second straight year. Samuels was selected NJAC Player of the Week once during the season as well.
Â
Freshman
Elena Nunez assumed the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles roles and made a fantastic debut. Nunez was voted NJAC Rookie of the Year and NJAC all-conference in singles and doubles after going 11-3 in singles play and 8-2 in doubles. Nunez, who finished the season with eight straight wins, was a two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection during the fall.
Â
Fellow freshman
Audrey van Schalkwyk was impressive in her rookie campaign. van Schalkwyk teamed with Nunez for an 8-2 record at No. 1 doubles and earned NJAC all-conference recognition in that spot. She also played No. 2 singles for the Ospreys and posted nine victories in individual play.
Â
Senior
Brooke Samuels tied with Nunez for second on the team in singles wins with 11. Samuels went 7-2 at No. 4 singles and 3-1 at the Goucher Invitational for a runner-up finish in Flight C. Senior
Katelyn Emick went 8-1 in singles play and ended the fall on a seven-match winning streak.
Â
Sophomore
Sarah Richardson led the Ospreys with 10 doubles victories and went 7-1 with a six-match win streak in singles play. Richardson played with three different players but primarily with junior
Brianna McCarthy as the duo posted a 7-2 mark. Richardson was chosen NJAC Player of the Week once. McCarthy finished second on the team with nine doubles wins overall.
Â
Seniors
Hailey Johnson and
Renee Wornowicz also contributed in doubles play. Johnson played with four different partners and went 7-2 on the season. Wornowicz paired with three different partners and compiled a 6-1 record. Johnson and Wornowicz went 2-0 as a duo and Wornowicz also won her lone singles match of the fall.
Â
Stockton will try to carry the momentum into the spring when the Ospreys take their annual trip to Hilton Head during spring break. Stockton will take an eight-match winning streak into the new semester and needs just one more victory to reach double digits in wins for the second straight year.
