Stockton Holds On for 76-74 Win Over Ramapo

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-2, 3-0 NJAC) saw a 14-point lead evaporate in the last three minutes but held on for a close 76-74 victory over Ramapo College (3-4, 0-3 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon.  Freshman DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led four Ospreys in double figures with 17 points.

Both teams came out tough on the defensive end to start the game, making it difficult to get shots. A conventional three-point play by Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) gave Stockton a brief 21-14 margin halfway through the frame. The Roadrunners fought back to knot the game at 26-26 with 5:39 remaining.

The teams traded five-point runs until Stockton was able to take a 37-34 lead at the break. Taylor led the way with eight points, three assists and a pair of steals to help the Ospreys gain the advantage. The second half started with Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City) making his presence felt. Five points and an assist pushed the Osprey lead to five at 46-41 at 16:23.

Stockton later stretched the margin to 69-55 with 3:04 remaining in regulation before Ramapo answered one last time. The contest became testy as technical fouls were assessed to both teams, allowing the visitors to gain some momentum at the foul line. The run culminated in a 19-6 spurt closing the gap to 75-74 with 18 seconds left.

Taylor then sealed the game with one of two foul shots to set the final score at 76-74, as Stockton escaped with the victory.

Taylor and Tariq Baker (Brooklyn, NY/St. Anthony's) chipped in with 12 points each, with Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) adding 11 markers. Campbell and Jordan Williams (Trenton/Trenton Central) topped all players with seven rebounds while Taylor dished a career-high five assists and blocked two shots.

Ramapo was led by Jason Battle with game-highs of 20 points and four steals. Teammates Rob McWilliams and Connor Romano added 15 and 11 points respectively.

Stockton will try and extend their three-game winning streak when they face Rowan University next Wednesday. The game in Glassboro is set for an 8 pm tip-off.
