Galloway, NJ – Stockton University junior
Meg Murzello (Maple Shade/Holy Cross) is one of 50 players on the 2019 Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Year
watch list. The list is comprised of 26 returning NFCA All-Americans plus 24 players, including Murzello, who earned NFCA All-Region First Team recognition last year.
Murzello is the first Stockton player ever to be on the watch list and one of seven from the New Jersey Athletic Conference this season. The outfielder was voted to the NFCA East Region First Team in 2018 after an outstanding year in which she led the Ospreys in batting (.412), runs (39), hits (56) and on-base percentage (.467) while also contributing 25 stolen bases and 16 RBI.
Murzello, who joined the team last year as a transfer from St. Francis (PA), finished second in the NJAC in runs, fourth in stolen bases, tied for fifth in hits and seventh in on-base percentage. Her 56 hits and 39 runs each were the third-highest season totals in Stockton history, and she was the first Osprey chosen All-Region First Team since Samantha Horner in 2009.
The watch list is compiled annually by the NFCA All-America committee and will be adjusted and pared down during the season until one player is chosen as the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year following the completion of the NCAA Championship in late May.
Murzello and the Ospreys are scheduled to begin their 2019 campaign with a doubleheader at Arcadia University on March 7.
