Stockton Rolls to 27-12 Win in Season Opener

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-0) exploded for four quick goals and ran away from Delaware Valley (0-1) 27-12 on Thursday night. Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) led the onslaught with a career-high nine goals and dished two assists for 11 points in the season opener for both teams.

Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) opened the scoring just 44 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) and Swedlund then tallied 31 seconds apart for a 3-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest. Rookie Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) nailed the first of his five markers for a 4-0 advantage with 9:11 left in the first period.

The Aggies answered with three goals in less than two minutes to slice the lead to 4-3 at 7:25. Swedlund tallied twice more and Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) scored to offset another Del Val score to end the period at 7-4 in favor of Stockton.

The second frame saw the defenses clamp down a little, but the Ospreys added six more markers to make it 13-6 at the break. Three goals by Poli, two by Swedlund and a tally by Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) accounted for the Stockton goals.

The Ospreys broke open the contest by outscoring the Aggies 9-4 in the third period for a commanding 22-10 margin. Three goals each by Swedlund and Anderson and single tallies by D'Arminio, Tiernan and Poli gave Stockton the huge margin.

The final frame became academic, with Stockton adding five more markers to set the final score of 27-12. Swedlund capped off his big night with his ninth goal, followed by Colin Shea (Rumson/Rumson Fair-Haven), Kevin Matheny (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) and Peter Burke (Shamong/Seneca) for the final tallies.
