Union, NJ – Stockton University (9-14, 7-9 NJAC) shot 29 percent from the floor in the first half and the resulting 12-point deficit proved too much for the Ospreys as they fell to Kean University (6-17, 4-12) by a 79-72 score.
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) went 5-9 from three-point range and scored a team-high 19 points.
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood), the current NJAC Rookie of the Week, hit double digits for the third straight game with 14 markers. Flanders shot 2-3 from beyond the arc and dished a team-high four assists.
Kyle Philo (Vineland/A.P. Schalick) tied his career high, which was set four days ago, with nine points.
Stockton sank just nine of 31 shots from the field in the first half, including 4-14 (28.6%) from three-point range. They were outscored 17-8 during one seven-minute stretch and trailed 34-19 late in the half on the way to a 36-24 deficit at the break. Taylor scored a team-high eight first-half points.
Kean began the second half with a 7-2 run in the first two minutes that increased the margin to 17 at 43-26. Stockton closed the gap to seven, 54-47, on a three-pointer by Taylor with 8:04 remaining and again at 62-55 on another trey by Taylor at the 3:13 mark. The Cougars then clinched the outcome with eight unanswered points and went on to deal the Ospreys the 72-64 defeat.
Stockton will play its final home game of the season on Saturday when the Ospreys host Montclair State at 3 pm.
