Stockton Falls to Montclair State 65-48

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-17, 4-13 NJAC) fell behind early and dropped a 65-48 decision to Montclair State (16-8, 12-5 NJAC) by a on Saturday afternoon. Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) led the Ospreys with 13 points in the game, the final home contest for the Ospreys for the season. Wright shot 6-9 from the floor.
 
Stockton began the contest on a cold streak, shooting just 2-11 (18.2%) in the first quarter while being out scored 12-5 in the frame. April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) tallied four of the five points for the Ospreys in the period.
 
The Ospreys got untracked in the second period, hitting 43.6% (7-16) from the field and tallying 18 markers. The Red Hawks stretched their advantage to 12 at 21-9 with 6:47 remaining in the half before Stockton went on a 14-5 run to close to within 26-23 with 2:08 left before the break.
 
Freshman Molly Collins (Lacey Twp./Donovan Catholic) nailed a pair of three-pointers and Wright added a conventional three-point play during the spurt. The visitors answered with the last four points to send the teams into the locker room at 30-23 in favor of Montclair State. Peterson and Collins topped the Ospreys with eight points each during the first 20 minutes of play.
 
The Red Hawks stretched the margin to 11 at 35-23 by scoring the first five markers of the third period. From there, the closest Stockton came was eight points at 35-27 with 7:30 left in the third quarter.  Montclair took command of the game with a 22-14 period and a 52-37 lead going into the fourth stanza. The final period became academic as the Red Hawks pulled away for the 65-48 victory.
 
In addition to Wright, Peterson, Stockton's lone senior playing in her final home game, tallied 12 points, a team-high six rebounds and tied for team high with three assists. Freshman Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms River South) scored nine points, dished three assists and pilfered a game-high three steals while Collins finished with eight points.
 
Julia Sutton and Alex McKinnon tallied 14 points each to lead Montclair State, with Dominique Wirsing adding 13 markers. Kayla Bush topped all players with 10 rebounds.
 
Stockton will finish up the 2018-19 season with a road tilt against Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 6 pm.
