Stockton Sweeps Penn College 4-2 and 16-5

Myrtle Beach, SC – Stockton University (6-0) opened up its five-game spring break trip with a sweep of Penn College (0-6) by scores of 4-2 and 16-5 to remain unbeaten on the season.
 
Austin Gonella (Beachwood/Toms River South) knocked three hits, including a double, and registered one RBI in the opener. Joe Pipher (Brick/Brick Memorial) added two hits for the Ospreys.
 
Zach Fillmore (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on three hits with four strikeouts for the win on the mound.
 
Penn College took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Ospreys jumped ahead 3-2 with three runs in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run on an RBI double by Gonella in the seventh frame for the 4-2 victory.
 
Gonella continued his big day with his first career home run, a two-run blast, and a total of three RBI in the nightcap. JJ Swentkowski (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) went 3-4 with a double and two RBI while John Perrino (Wall/Wall) chipped in with two hits and an RBI. Rico Viani (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) added two hits, three walks and two stolen bases.
 
Stockton fell behind quickly as Penn College scored four runs in the top of the first inning. The Ospreys chipped away with a run in the second frame, two in the third and one in the fourth to pull into a 4-4 tie.
 
Stockton then broke the game open with a nine-run onslaught in the fifth inning. They added three more tallies in the next stanza and rolled to their sixth straight win to open the season, 16-5.
 
The Ospreys will be back on the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader against Dean College (MA) that begins at 4 pm.
