Hilton Head, SC – Stockton University (10-5) concluded the 2018-19 season with a 9-0 shutout of Marietta College (OH) (2-5) that was the third straight win for the Ospreys. Stockton finished with a double-digit win total for the first time since going 10-5 in 2014-15.
Maria Ibarra (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and
Emily Steinberg (Toms River/TR North) got things started with a 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Taylor Searles (Turnersville/Washington Twp.) and
Renee Wornowicz (Old Bridge/Old Bridge) edged their opponents 9-8 (7-2) at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Ibarra rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout while Steinberg won 6-4, 6-0 and Wornowicz breezed 6-3, 6-0.
Brenna Samuels (Salem/Salem) posted her 17th win of the season by a 6-2, 6-1 margin. Samuels ended the year on a 16-match winning streak and her 17 victories tied the second-highest season total in the program's history.
Brooke Samuels (Salem/Salem) prevailed in the closest match of the day, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 in a super-tiebreaker after splitting two sets with her opponent. Samuels and Steinberg each finished the season with 13 singles victories. Stockton won the matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by forfeit to complete the 9-0 triumph.
After going 7-3 in the fall portion of the season, Stockton won three out of five on its annual spring break trip to finish 10-5.
