Winter Park, FL – Stockton University ended a week of training in Florida by rowing in five events at the Rollins College Spring Break Race on Lake Maitland. The trip south was another big step in the growth of the Stockton women's rowing program and ended with the Ospreys competing for the first time this spring and first time under new head coach
John Bancheri.
After Stockton's first week of practice on the water, the Ospreys competed along with Barry University and host Rollins College, a pair NCAA Division II programs, plus the University of Florida, which is a Division I club team. Many of the Ospreys were rowing in a competitive race against other squads for the first time.
The Ospreys had their best finish with second place in the novice four in a time of 8:33.4 by the unit of
Marie Carney (Linwood/Mainland),
Lily Ludgate (Linwood/Mainland), Jany Anderson and
Michaela Pope (Collingswood/Collingswood) plus coxswain
Julianna Hanson (Linwood/Mainland).
A second Stockton boat of
Geri Richardson (Berlin/Eastern),
Amanda Newmuis (Penns Grove/Penns Grove),
Emily Luberto (Nutley/Nutley) and
Morgan Maines (Moorestown/Moorestown) with coxswain
Maddy Ledwith (Kinnelon/Kinnelon) also rowed in the novice four with a time of 9:23.6.
The varsity eight of
Claudia Bowman (Barrington/Haddon Hts.), Pope,
Sofiya Lebedeva (Ocean City/Ocean City), Ludgate,
Chloe Schulze (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands),
Jazlyn Quish (Mays Landing/Oakcest),
Olivia Hurley (Bayville/Central Regional),
Julia Iannelli (Ventnor/Atlantic City) and Hanson as the coxswain finished in 7:47.1.
The second varsity eight of Carney,
Desarae Dempsey (Franklinville/GCIT), Anderson,
Caitlyn Fogarty (Jackson/Jackson Memorial), Richardson,
Kayla Bokor (Wayne/Roxbury),
Mikayla Reis (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) and coxswain
Catelyn Andrews (Old Bridge/Old Bridge) hit the finish line at 8:22.9.
Hanson was the coxswain for the novice eight and the rowers were Carney, Pope, Lebedeva, Ludgate, Anderson, Fogarty,
Amanda Guida (Lanoka Harbor/Lacey Twp.) and Dempsey. The group registered a time of 8:13.9 in their race.
Bowman, Quish, Hurley and Ianelli rowed in the varsity four with Andrews as coxswain. They finished in 8:41.3.
Up next, Stockton will host Cabrini College and the University of Rochester in the Atlantic City Double Dual on Sunday, March 24 at 11 am.
