Dover, DE – Stockton University (10-0) outscored Wesley College (2-11-1) 18-12 in a game that was stopped in the ninth inning due to darkness. The victory was the 10th straight for the Ospreys, who remained unbeaten on the season.
John Perrino (Wall/Wall) went 3-5 with a double, five RBI and three runs while
Garrhet Reedy (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) was 3-4 with two walks, a double, run and an RBI.
Anthony Napoli (Erial/Timber Creek) contributed two hits, two RBI and a run for the Ospreys.
Perrino singled in two runs as part of a three-run top of the first by Stockton. Reedy rapped an RBI double while
Rico Viani (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) and
Austin Gonella (Beachwood/Toms River South) contributed RBI singles during a five-run second inning that upped the lead to 8-0.
The advantage was 9-0 after
Mike DeSenzo (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) scored on a wild pitch in the third frame. Wesley then broke out with four runs apiece in the third and fourth innings to trim the lead to one at 9-8.
Stockton extended to 13-8 with four scores in the top of the fifth, which was highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Perrino. After Wesley got one back in the bottom half, a sacrifice fly by Perrino in the sixth frame made it 14-9 in favor of the Ospreys.
Wesley threatened again in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three times to pull within 14-12, but Stockton tacked on four more runs in the top of the eighth to seal the 18-12 victory. Gonella walked with the bases loaded for an RBI, Napoli then singled in two runs and the Ospreys added one more on a Wesley error.
Overall, Stockton scored 18 runs on 12 hits and six Wesley errors. The Ospreys also stole 13 bases, led by freshman
Brendan Doherty (Middletown/Middletown South) with four thefts. Doherty also scored three runs in the game.
