Stockton Routs NJCU; 18-4, 12-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (22-18, 8-10 NJAC) swept their way into the NJAC Playoffs, with a pair of wins over New Jersey City (4-32, 0-18 NJAC) by scores of 18-4 and 12-0, both finishing in five innings, on Saturday afternoon. Senior Maggie Klatt (Middletown/Mater Dei) smashed five hits, including her first career home run, and had seven RBI on Senior Day to lead the Ospreys.

Stockton started quickly in game one, plating six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Liani Ortiz (Marlton/Cherokee) and Klatt had the big blows, smashing two run homers each during the spurt.
The Gothic Knights answered with four runs to close the gap to 6-4, but an Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) RBI put Stockton up 7-4 after two innings.

The Ospreys put the game away in the bottom of the third frame. Stockton sent 14 hitters to the plate, scoring 10 runs on 11 hits for a commanding 17-4 margin. Klatt had three RBI and Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) drove in two RBI during the uprising.

In the middle of the scoring, Cosenzo picked up her third RBI of the day, and in doing so, broke the Stockton record for career RBI with 111. The pervious mark had been held by Kelly Dodd (110, 2007-10).

Stockton added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to set the final score at 18-4 and give senior Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) her seventh win of the season and 30th victory of her career.

Game two was all Stockton as the Ospreys scored in all four innings of the contest. Morgan DiVello (Hammonton/Hammonton) drove in four runs, with Klatt picking up two more RBI. Freshman Lilly James (Roseland/ West Essex) also blasted a three-run home run, her second of the season.

That gave Marissa Semeraro (Ridgefield/Ridgefield) her sixth win of the year. The sophomore allowed just two hits in tossing her first career shutout.

Stockton has qualified for the NJAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and will begin the Tournament on Tuesday against an opponent and venue to be named.
