West Chester, PA – Stockton University won eight events and added six runner-up finishes to highlight a strong day of competition in the Bill Butler Invitational at West Chester University. The Ospreys won six men's events and two women's events on the day.
Qudratullah Qadiri (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) led Stockton by winning the 110m hurdles (15.42 seconds) and pole vault (4.40m). Freshman
Josh Rolls (Marmora/Ocean City) won the 100m (11.18 seconds) and joined fellow rookies
Bishop Curry (Toms River/TR North) and
Lucas Smith (Galloway/Absegami) plus
Cedric Cook (Toms River/TR North) for victory in the 4x100 relay (43.86 seconds).
Joe D'Amico (Bayville/Central Regional) in the 1500m (4:00.23) and
Hunter Daly (Florence/Florence) in the high jump (1.93m) rounded out the list of men's winners for Stockton. Freshman
Jy'Asia Bivins (Toms River/TR South) won the long jump (5.21) and
Emmy LaFevre (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) captured the shot put (11.53m) for the Osprey women's team.
Darren Wan (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) finished second in the hammer throw (48.07m) plus third in the discus (41.68m).
Daniel Rupert (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg) placed second in the 5000m (18:23.26) while
Christian Mele (Cherry Hill/CH East) finished third in the 1500m (4:03.93) and
Tyler Shanks (Pequannock/Pequannock) was third in the hammer throw (41.32m).
In addition to her long jump win, Bivins teamed with
Jenna Walker (Barnegat/Barnegat),
Abby Lodge (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) and fellow rookie
Corinn Guilford (Buena/St. Joseph's) for second place in the 4x100 relay (50.17 seconds).
Charlotte Leon (Northport, NY/Northport) finished second in the discus (33.53m) and third in the hammer throw (42.25m). Freshman
Jessie Klenk (Somerdale/Sterling) was second in the javelin (33.73m) and
Randi Lyn Hornyak (Ogdensburg/Wallkill Valley) placed second behind LaFevre in the shot put (11.50m).
Third-place individual performances were registered by
Rachael Leyrer (Dorothy/Buena) in the 100m hurdles (15.45 seconds),
Jenna Vigorito (Columbus/Northern Burlington) in the discus (33.39m) and freshman
Jeanmarie Harvey (River Edge/River Dell) in the pole vault (3.30m).
Walker, Lodge,
Cierra Granger (Ocean City/Ocean City) and
Erica Burdsall (Bridgeton/Cumberland) ran to third place in the 4x400 relay (4:11.94).
Harvey (pole vault), D'Amico (1500m), Klenk (javelin), Hornyak (shot put) and Qadiri (pole vault) added their names to Stockton's list of qualifiers for the Atlantic Region Championships.
Next weekend, Stockton will host the Osprey Open at G. Larry James Stadium on April 12-13.
