Stockton Eliminated from NJAC Tournament, 6-1

Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (22-20) was eliminated from the NJAC Tournament with a 6-1 setback to Montclair State (29-13) in a losers' bracket game. The defeat brought the season to a close, but not before the Ospreys earned a conference playoff berth for the fourth straight season under head coach Mavreen Hering.

Stockton was led by a pair of seniors who were playing their final college game. Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) went 3-4 with a solo home run while Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) was 2-3 at the plate as the duo accounted for five of their team's seven hits.

Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) and Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) also singled for the Ospreys in the game. Montclair State scored in four of its six offensive chances, with two runs apiece in the second and third innings plus one marker each in the fifth and sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Schieda made the most of her last career at-bat by spoiling the shutout with a solo homer to left field. The long ball was Schieda's fourth of the season to tie for the team lead and 14th of her career, which moved her into third in Stockton history. The third baseman also drew a walk in the third inning to tie the school record of 25 walks in a season.

In addition to her home run total, Schieda ended her four-year career second in the program's history in walks (63), third in runs (92), sixth in doubles (30), tied for sixth in RBI (76) and tied for ninth in hits (135).

Shaw returned from a torn ACL that she suffered midway through the 2018 season and rejoined the starting lineup for her senior year. She finished her career on a high note by batting .478 (11-23) over her last 10 games, including hits in each of her first two at-bats against Montclair State.

Fellow senior Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) got the start on the mound in her last game to finish her four seasons with a school-record 101 pitching appearances for Stockton. Torp tossed the first five innings, allowing five runs, one of which was unearned, on nine hits.

Torp pitched 408 innings for Stockton, the third-highest total in school history, and won 30 games, which is tied for fifth all-time. She is also the program's career leader with nine saves.
