Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-5, 6-1 NJAC) could not survive a cold shooting skid over an eight-minute span and dropped a 78-70 decision to New Jersey City University (6-8, 3-4 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Â
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) led the Ospreys with game highs of 20 points and six rebounds. The defeat was the first loss in conference play for the Ospreys.

The Ospreys began the contest quickly as the host squad jumped out to a 17-8 lead at the 16:05 mark of the first half. The Gothic Knights answered with an 11-0 spurt to take a 19-17 lead three minutes later. The teams battled until Stockton was able to get some breathing room at 39-28 on five points from
Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City) and a basket by
Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington/Irvington).

The visitors slowly crawled back into the game trailing only by a field goal at the break, 43-41. The Ospreys went scoreless for the final 2:34 of the frame while NJCU posted six markers to send the teams to the half. Lubrano topped the Ospreys with nine points during the first 20 minutes of play, with
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) adding seven points.

The scoreless streak continued for Stockton for over five minutes at the start of the second half until
Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) scored a basket, ending the skid. The Ospreys fought through, gaining a tie at 58-58 with 9:58 remaining. The Gothic Knights then ran off on a 14-2 run to make it 72-60 with 7:11 left in the game.

The margin ballooned to 74-61 before Stockton made one final attempt at the win. A pair of three-pointers by Flanders, a basket by
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) and two foul shots by
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) cut the lead to 74-70 in favor of NJCU with 2:23 left. Unfortunately, Stockton did not score again as the visitors came away with the 78-70 victory.

Flanders, who scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half, shot 4-7 from behind the arc with four assists for the game. Dawkins pilfered three steals while Taylor dished five assists to lead the Ospreys.

NJCU put five players in double figures, led by Tarique Holmes with 16 points and a game-high six assists. Jaimik Moore added 14 markers, with Denzel Banks and Nizair Scott chipping in with 11 points each. Sam Toney rounded out the scorers with 10 points.

Stockton will travel to Newark for their next contest, against Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 8 pm.
