Stockton Falls to Ramapo 69-53

Mahwah, N.J. – Stockton University (11-7, 8-3 NJAC) was unable to derail the hottest team in the league as the Ospreys fell to Ramapo (11-7, 7-4) 69-53 on Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners have won seven straight games to rocket up the NJAC standings while Stockton has dropped its last two.
 
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) shot 7-10 (70%) from the floor and scored a game-high 17 points. DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) contributed 12 markers as the duo combined for more than half of Stockton's points, 29 of 53.
 
Taylor and Campbell each went 3-6 (50%) from three-point range but the rest of the Ospreys made just 3-19 (15.8%) from beyond the arc in the contest. Jordan Williams (Trenton/Trenton Central) topped the squad with seven rebounds. Taylor and Campbell dished three assists apiece.
 
Stockton entered the game third in the nation in field goal percentage defense, holding teams to 37.2 percent shooting, however Ramapo was able to solve the Ospreys and connect at 51.5 percent in the first half. An early three-pointer by Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City) gave Stockton its only lead of the game at 3-2.
 
Ramapo answered with 12 straight points for a 14-3 count and the Ospreys never recovered. Stockton trailed by as much as 17 in the half before ending the period with a 40-27 deficit. Campbell paced the Ospreys with seven first-half points.
 
Stockton's defense stiffened in the second half, holding the Roadrunners to 29 points and 34.6 percent from the field, but the Ospreys could not make up ground. The margin remained in double digits for the entire period as Stockton scored just 26 points and suffered the 69-53 defeat. Taylor accounted for half of the team's output with 13 markers on 5-7 (71.4%) shooting.
 
Up next, Stockton will host Rutgers-Camden in a conference game at The Sports Center on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
