Mahwah, N.J. – Stockton University (7-11, 2-9 NJAC) was outscored 14-5 by Ramapo (9-9, 3-8) in the last 9:30 of the game and saw its six-point lead dissolve into a 51-48 setback. The Ospreys led for nearly 24 of the game's 40 minutes but came out on the short end at the final horn.
Kiley Gelston (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) led Stockton with nine points and also grabbed nine rebounds.
Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) tossed in eight points and snagged a game-high 10 boards.
Armanee DeBarry (Millville/Millville) produced one of the best games of her freshman year. DeBarry scored a career-high eight points, tied her career best with seven rebounds and swiped three steals. She went 3-4 from the floor and 2-3 at the line.
Maddie McCracken (Wildwood/Wildwood) added eight points in the balanced effort.
Stockton trailed 13-10 after the first quarter but surged ahead in the second period. McCracken scored six points in the stanza, including 4-4 at the line, to spark the Ospreys to a 21-11 quarter that gave them a 31-24 advantage at halftime. Stockton outscored the Roadrunners 13-1 at the free throw line during the half.
Stockton stayed in front throughout the third period, establishing its largest lead at 41-32 on a layup by McCracken with 2:57 left in the period. Ramapo responded with five straight points to trim the Ospreys' lead to 41-37 entering the fourth quarter.
Stockton led 46-42 after a basket by DeBarry with 6:42 left in the game, but the Ospreys were outscored 9-2 the rest of the way. Ramapo tallied seven consecutive points for a 49-46 edge before two free throws by Gelston got Stockton within 49-48 with 23 seconds to play.
After two Ramapo free throws made it 51-48, Stockton had a shot to tie in the closing seconds, but the try from beyond the arc was no good and the Ospreys suffered their third three-point loss of the season.
Stockton returns home to host Rutgers-Camden in an NJAC matchup on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
