Stockton Runs Away from Kean 78-61

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (15-8, 12-4 NJAC) won for the fourth time in their last five games with a 78-61 win over Kean University (6-17, 3-13 NJAC) on Wednesday night. Senior Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) led the Ospreys with a game-high 19 points, keeping the Ospreys in a tie for first place in the NJAC standings.
 
After the Cougars scored the first basket of the contest, Stockton ran off on a 10-0 run for a 10-2 lead early in the first half. Four different Ospreys scored during the streak, led by three-point baskets by Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) and Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City).
 
The margin ballooned to 19-4 at 10:03 when Lubrano hit another bomb. Stockton increased the pressure, leading by as many as 18 points before ending the first half up by a 39-24 margin. All nine players that saw action scored in the half, topped by Taylor and freshman Jordan Williams (Trenton/Trenton Central) with seven points each.
 
The Ospreys kept control during the second stanza, keeping the double-digit lead until Kean closed to within nine points at 57-48 at the 9:07 mark. Six consecutive points, highlighted by a Taylor three-ball, pushed the margin back to 15 at 63-48 with 7:17 to play.  From there, all 14 available Stockton players garnered playing time down the stretch and the final score was set at 78-61 in favor of the home team.
 
Taylor led all players with five assists to go with six rebounds while scoring in double digits for the fifth time in his last six contests. Williams was the only other Osprey in double figures with 13 markers. Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington/Irvington) topped the squad with seven rebounds, with rookie DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) pilfering three steals and blocking two shots.
 
Stockton played tough defense as they forced 21 turnovers that led to 23 points. The Ospreys also dominated the glass, holding a massive 47-26 margin in rebounding for the game. Stockton had 17 assists on their 26 baskets for the evening as well.
 
Kean was topped by Nate Lyles with 15 points, while teammates Jailen Jamison and Joshua Jackson tallied 12 and 10 points respectively. Mario Gunn led all players with 11 rebounds.
 
Stockton will travel to play Montclair State for their next game on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 pm.
