Stockton Overrun by Montclair State 75-52

Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (9-15, 4-13 NJAC) could not crack the tough defensive pressure and fell to Montclair State (19-5, 14-3 NJAC) by a 75-52 score on Saturday afternoon. Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) was the only Osprey in double figures with 10 points.

The Ospreys scored the first two points on an Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) basket but surrendered the next 10 points to the Red Hawks, for an eight-point deficit at 6:20 of the first period. The home team never looked back, taking the first frame 24-12.

Montclair State extended the margin to 43-25 at the break with a 19-13 second period. Chyna Wooten (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep Charter) led Stockton with five markers, followed by Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City), Porricelli and Aiya Underwood (Highland Park/Highland Park) with four points each.

The Red Hawks put the game away with a 22-7 third quarter for an insurmountable 65-32 advantage. The fourth and final stanza saw the Ospreys fight back to win the quarter 18-10, but the deficit was to large for Stockton to overcome in the 75-50 defeat.

Wright led the Ospreys with nine rebounds and two blocks, with freshman Maddie McCracken (Wildwood/Wildwood) and Porricelli dishing two assists each. Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms River South) led all players with four steals.

Montclair State was topped by Nickie Cater with a game-high 24 points. Taylor Brown and Alex McKinnon added 15 and 14 points respectively. Kayla Bush pulled down 11 rebounds, while teammate Cerys MacLelland dished 10 assists.

Stockton will finish up the 2019-2020 season on Wednesday night at home against Rutgers-Newark. The game will be Senior Night and Think Pink Night and will tip-off at 6pm.
