Galloway, N.J. – Three Stockton University student-athletes were selected for NJAC weekly honors for their efforts during the week of February 10-16. Senior
Jessica McRae (Keyport/Carteret) was named NJAC Field Athlete of the Week in women's track & field.
Junior
Darren Wan (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) was chosen NJAC Field Athlete of the Week for men's track & field and
Jordan Williams (Trenton/Trenton Central) was selected NJAC Rookie of the Week for men's basketball. McRae and Williams were honored for the third time each while Wan picked up his first career selection.
McRae earned her third NJAC Field Athlete of the Week honor this season after traveling to Staten Island to compete in the Fasttrack National Invite at the Ocean Breeze Complex. She placed second in a field of 24 competitors in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 11.88 meters.
The mark broke her own Stockton record by over a root and is ranked number one in both the Atlantic Region and the NJAC this year. The jump by McRae currently stands as the fourth-best in the triple jump in all of NCAA Division III this season.
Wan became the second different Osprey to earn NJAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week. He placed second in a field of 39 in the weight throw at the Fastrack National Invite with a school-record toss of 17.68 meters.
The performance by Wan shattered an Ospreys' program record by Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame member Mike Mielke that stood for over 35 years (1985). The distance currently stands as the best in the NJAC, second in the Atlantic Region and the 15th weight throw mark in all of NCAA Division III this season.
Williams helped Stockton to another 2-0 week with averages of 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds. The freshman shot 80 percent (8-10) from the field with three assists as the Ospreys clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming NJAC Tournament. Williams went a perfect 5-5 from the floor and scored 13 points against Kean on February 12.
For the season, Williams is averaging 4.6 rebounds, second among all rookies in the league, while scoring 6.7 points per game. This is the 10th NJAC Rookie of the Week award for Stockton in men's basketball, with Williams garnering three selections and fellow frosh
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) snagging seven more in the 15 weeks of play thus far.
