Doylestown, PA – Stockton University (1-0) used a balanced scoring effort to capture their season opener, with a 14-9 road victory over Delaware Valley (0-2) on Wednesday night.
Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) led the Ospreys with three goals and four assists on the evening.
The Rams opened the first period by scoring two of the first three goals, for a 2-1 lead at 10:51.
Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) scored twice to knot the game but the home team tallied the last goal of the frame for a 3-2 lead after one quarter.
The Ospreys took control of the match with a five-goal outburst in period number two for a 7-4 margin at the break.
Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) and
Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) scored 17 seconds apart for a 4-3 advantage at 13:38. Del Val knotted the match for the last time at 4-4 at the 10:33.
Stockton scored the last three goals of the half when
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph), Ellis and
Patrick Dunleavy (Medford/Bishop Eustace) hit the back of the net for a 7-4 margin at the break. Dunleavy's tally was his first career marker.
The Ospreys took control of the game in the third period, outscoring the Rams 5-1 for a commanding 12-5 lead after three quarters of play. Two scores by Anderson and one each by Swedlund, Poli and Ellis put Stockton comfortably in front.
Two quick goals to start the final period by Delaware Valley sliced the lead to 12-7 before Anderson and Swedlund offset two more scores by the Rams to set the final score at 14-9 in favor of the Ospreys.
In addition to Anderson's big night, Swedlund, Poli and Ellis all scored three goals.
Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) dished a pair of assists as did D'Arminio.
Stanley Kolimago (Lansdale, PA/Methacton), Ellis and Dunleavy all had one helper. For Dunleavy it was his first career multi-point game.
Goalkeeper
Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) made 11 saves in net in the win.
Khalil Lindsey led the Rams with four goals, with PJ Rafferty dishing out three assists. Netminder Nic Brown kicked out 19 shots for the evening.
Stockton will play their home opener on Saturday afternoon for the next tilt. The Ospreys will face McDaniel College at 1pm.
