Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University garnered two postseason awards and three all-conference selections from the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the 2019-20 men's basketball season. Freshman
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) was selected NJAC Rookie of the Year and head coach
Scott Bittner was voted NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers.
Sophomore
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) was chosen to the NJAC First Team while Campbell and senior
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) picked up NJAC Honorable Mention nods. All three Ospreys received all-conference recognition for the first time in their careers.
Campbell, who has been named NJAC Rookie of the Week seven times this season, is the first Osprey to earn the NJAC Rookie of the Year award since Mike Menefee in 1988. He is the only freshman in the conference who is averaging double figures (11.9 ppg), and he ranks third overall in the NJAC in free throw percentage (.869) plus tied for 10th in three-pointers (2.0/game).
Flanders leads the team and stands 12th in the NJAC in scoring (14.0 ppg) while also topping the Ospreys and ranking seventh in the conference in steals (1.8 spg). The sophomore has scored efficiently, shooting 45.2 percent from field, 37.1 percent from three-point range and 75.2 percent at the free throw line. He is averaging 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as well.
Taylor has had a tremendous senior season, topping the Ospreys and ranking ninth in the NJAC in assists (2.9 apg). He is the third Osprey in double-figure scoring at 10.6 points per game to go with 4.3 rebounds per contest. Taylor also is third in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (1.8) and second on the team behind Campbell in three-pointers (45).
Bittner, in his fourth season at the helm, has guided Stockton to a 17-8 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the always-tough NJAC. The Ospreys were ranked seventh in the NJAC preseason coaches poll but finished tied for first in the league with The College of New Jersey. They host Rowan University in the NJAC semifinals tonight at 7 p.m.
Bittner has helmed a balanced squad that features 10 players who have seen action in at least 22 of the team's 25 games. A long and athletic squad, Stockton tops the NJAC in rebounding margin (+5.4 rpg) and ranks second in the league and fifth in NCAA Division III in field goal percentage defense by holding opponents to a paltry 37.7 percent shooting.
