Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (13-8, 10-4 NJAC) fell victim to a barrage of three-pointers by Rowan University (10-11, 6-8) in the early going and never recovered, suffering a 97-76 setback. The result slid the Ospreys out of sole possession of first place in the conference and into a tie with TCNJ for the top spot.
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) topped Stockton with 18 points followed by
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) and
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) with 10 markers apiece.
Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington/Irvington) grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and scored six points.
Stockton shot just 6-36 (16.7%) from three-point range and could not slow down the Profs, who drained 17 three-pointers on the night. The Ospreys grabbed 23 offensive rebounds, led by Nyamekye with seven, and outrebounded Rowan 55-49 overall, but the three-point shooting proved to be the difference.
Rowan sank its first four attempts from beyond the arc to put Stockton in a 14-4 hole in the opening 3:38. The Profs went a torrid 6-9 from three-point land in the first eight minutes for a 22-10 count. The Ospreys could not make up any ground, falling behind 49-28 late in the half on the way to a 51-32 deficit at the break.
Stockton made just one of 16 three-point attempts in the half (6.3%), with Campbell netting the lone trey. By contrast, Rowan went 11-24 (45.8%) from downtown before halftime. Flanders paced the Ospreys with nine first-half points.
Flanders opened the second half with a three-point play to make it 51-35 but Stockton never got any closer. Rowan answered with two more three-pointers to halt any chance of a comeback and the Ospreys fell 97-76.
Rowan's Maliq Sanders led all players with 22 points followed by Jerry Price with 20 markers. Price was a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. Matt Green also reached double digits with 18 points for the Profs.
Stockton will be on the road on Saturday for an NJAC matchup at New Jersey that begins at 3 p.m.
