Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (3-0) sprinted to the lead with a run of four goals in four-and-a-half minutes and stayed in front the rest of the way for a 16-9 victory over New Paltz (2-2). With the win, the Ospreys remained unbeaten on the season.
Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) and freshman
Holly Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) sparked the Stockton offense with four goals and one assist apiece.
Jade Rivera (Toms River/Jackson Liberty), also a freshman, netted three markers for the Ospreys.
The Hawks held an early 2-1 edge, sandwiching a pair of tallies around a goal by Yannacone. Rivera started Stockton's four-goal burst and then
Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) put the Ospreys in front 3-2. Shultz followed with a pair of goals to boost the lead to 5-2.
Stockton played stout defense, holding New Paltz scoreless for nearly 18 minutes before the Hawks broke through for their third counter. Shultz found the net in the final minute of the half for a 6-3 lead at the break and then scored again 1:27 into the second stanza to make it 7-3.
After Yannacone upped the advantage to 8-3, New Paltz bookended two goals around one by Toal for a 9-5 count. The Ospreys then put the game away with three straight markers.
Kristen Russo (Wayne/Wayne Hills) and
Jessica Catalioto (Ringwood/Lakeland) each scored their first goal of the season, followed by one from
Remi Reinhardt (Wall Twp./Wall) for a 12-5 lead with 11:12 remaining.
Stockton maintained a lead of at least four goals for the rest of the game, with Rivera and Yannacone each potting two markers on the way to the 16-9 triumph.

Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) made one save in the first half and freshman
Jordan Hawkes (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) preserved the lead with five saves in the second half. Toal filled the stat sheet with seven ground balls, five draw controls and two goals.
Katie Zito and Amy Hofer each scored three times for New Paltz. Goalie Julie Culhane made 12 saves for the Hawks.
Stockton will conclude its three-game homestand with a match against Westminster (Pa.) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
