Statement from
Kevin McHugh, Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation, regarding the cancelation of the remainder of the Spring 2020 season:
Today, the New Jersey Athletic Conference canceled the remainder of the conference spring season. This is in conjunction with Executive Order 104 issued by Gov. Murphy, and Center for Disease Control guidelines to limit all gatherings to stem the spread of the coronavirus and safeguard the health of student-athletes and the public.
In coordination with that effort, effective immediately, Stockton is canceling all athletic practices, competitions, and all other team activities for the remainder of the academic year.
As with many decisions made during this public health crisis, this is difficult and heartbreaking for our student-athletes and their families, for the coaches and staff, and for Osprey fans. However, it is a decision made in the best interest of the health and safety of all involved.
I deeply appreciate the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, coaches and staff at Stockton and I know we will rebound to come back even stronger. While the cancelation of the season prohibits us from honoring our participants, especially the seniors, in the established ways, we will work to create an appropriate manner and time for recognizing their contributions.
Thank you and stay safe,
Kevin McHugh
Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation
