Newark, N.J. – Stockton University finished second out of 28 women's teams and third out of 29 men's teams in the NJIT Highlander Challenge at Branch Brook Park. The Ospreys finished behind only Division I Seton Hall in both races plus Division II NJIT in the men's race.
Jessie Klenk (Somerdale/Sterling) knocked nearly a minute off her 5K personal best by running 18:46.73 to finish ninth out of 235 runners.
Kierstin Clem (Voorhees/Eastern) also notched a personal best with a time of 19:07.20 for 13th place while teammate
Jamie Wun (Moorestown/Moorestown) followed in 14th place with a personal-best 19:15.67.
Olivia Harris (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) added to the personal bests with 19:30.03 for 19th place and freshman
Marlee Tharp (Tuckerton/Pinelands) established a personal best of 19:34.54 in her second career 5K race for 22nd place.
On the men's side,
Sam Tenenbaum (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) shaved 61 seconds off his personal best with a time of 26:14.34 to lead the Ospreys in 14th place out of 237 runners. Another personal best came from
Stephen Conte (Washington Twp./Paul VI) with 26:26.46 for 16th place.
Brandon Shymanski (Brick/Brick Memorial) finished 22nd with a time of 26:46.88 followed by freshman
Erik Ackerman (Long Valley/West Morris Central) in 23rd place at the 26:50.91 mark.
Clayton Engle (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) completed Stockton's top five in 31st place at 27:03.83.
Stockton will have two weeks off before heading to New England for the Connecticut College Invitational on October 16 at 11 a.m.
