Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-0) won five out of six matches in singles play to defeat Stevens Institute of Technology (1-1) by a 6-3 count.
Elena Nunez (Madrid, Spain/Rye (N.Y.)) and
Audrey van Schalkwyk (Haddon Hts./Paul VI) led the Ospreys with wins in singles and doubles.
Nunez and van Schalkwyk earned the lone doubles point for Stockton with an 8-2 win. Nunez then rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles while van Schalkwyk won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Like Nunez,
Sarb Devi (Galloway/Absegami) also came from behind, overtaking her opponent 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. A pair of freshmen earned victories for the Ospreys as well.
Sophia Pasquale (Galloway/Holy Spirit) posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Kierstyn Fenimore (Tabernacle/Seneca) made her singles debut a successful one as she topped her foe 6-2, 6-3 for her first career singles victory.
Stockton will travel to Maryland next weekend to compete in the Goucher Invitational tournament on October 9-10.
