Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (0-3, 0-2 NJAC) was edged by Montclair State (1-2, 1-1 NJAC) 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Tori Wilson (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) scored her first career goal for the Ospreys. Both Montclair State markers came on penalty strokes.
The teams dueled through a scoreless first half in which Stockton outshot the Red Hawks 8-4 but was stymied by goaltender Lauren Pickul with six saves. Montclair State crept in front on a penalty stroke by Carlie Van Tassel with 2:55 left in the third quarter.
Just 3:30 into the fourth period, Wilson pulled the Ospreys into a 1-1 tie with her first college goal.
Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) assisted on the counter. Each team registered four shots in the last 11 minutes of regulation but none found the back of the cage and the match went to overtime.
With only 2:35 gone in OT, Montclair State earned another penalty stroke and Elizabeth Cimilluca cashed in to deal Stockton the 2-1 defeat.
Stockton goalkeeper
Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made eight saves, including two in overtime, and was beaten only on the penalty strokes. Mitchell's counterpart Pickul finished with 11 stops for the Red Hawks.
Stockton is scheduled to play next in the NJAC Tournament, which is slated to begin on April 3.
