Trenton, N.J. – Stockton University (1-5) saw its season come to an end with a 67-47 defeat to unbeaten The College of New Jersey (9-0) in the NJAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Ospreys, perhaps rusty from a 17-day layoff since their last game, shot just 20.9 percent (14-67) from the field.
Freshman point guard
Jordyn Madigan (Toms River/TR East) scored a career-high 11 points to top the Ospreys.
Nalya Hill (Bloomfield/DePaul Catholic) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Freshman
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) contributed nine points, seven boards and a game-high four steals. As a team, Stockton went 3-15 (20%) from beyond the arc, with Madigan, Jennings and
Theresa Besso (Morganville/Marlboro) draining one trey apiece.
The Ospreys fell behind 21-7 after one quarter and could not recover. They were outscored by just six points the rest of the way, but they were unable to make a run at the Lions. Stockton trailed 36-19 at the break and never got closer than 17 points in the second half on the way to the 67-47 defeat.
Stockton played six games and had three more, against teams that were a combined 2-11, canceled during the abbreviated season. The campaign should pay dividends in the long run for a squad that had six freshmen or sophomores average at least 13 minutes per game. The Ospreys have just two seniors and hopefully can use this season as a building block for the future.
