Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-1, 0-1 NJAC) built a 7-1 lead but could not fend off a furious rally by Kean University (2-4, 1-0 NJAC) and fell 8-7 in the conference opener for both teams. The Ospreys went scoreless for the last 29 minutes of the game.
Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) scored a team-high three goals followed by
Allie Bremer (Oakland/Indian Hills) with two markers.
Holly Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) dished a game-high three assists.
After Shultz opened the scoring, freshman
Drew Coxson (Chatham/Chatham) netted her first career goal for a 2-0 advantage. Kean got one back but the Ospreys then scored three counters in 1:31 for a 5-1 lead as Bremer sandwiched two goals around one by Shultz.
Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) later found the net and Stockton led 6-1 at the half. When Shultz potted her third tally of the game just 12 seconds into the second half, the Ospreys had scored five straight and their lead was 7-1.
Kean quickly closed the gap to 7-4 with three goals in a three-minute span. The Cougars continued chipping away and eventually tied the score 7-7 with 10:30 remaining. Amanda Ehrhart then tossed in a goal with 9:10 on the clock that resulted in Stockton's first deficit of the game at 8-7.
Stockton registered two shots the rest of the way, but one was wide and the other was saved by Kean goalie Morgan Harris, resulting in an 8-7 setback for the Ospreys.
Stockton starter
Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) played 51:20 and made six saves against four goals allowed. Pascrell finished with four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers, all of which were team highs.
Katie Pileggi paced Kean with four goals and one assist while Ehrhart scored three goals. Harris earned the goalkeeping win with 10 saves for the Cougars.
Stockton returns home to host No. 14 The College of New Jersey in the home opener for the Ospreys on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
