Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (4-5) saw its 2021 season come to an end with a 20-10 setback to undefeated Montclair State (8-0) in the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament. The Red Hawks are ranked 23rd in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.
Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) scored a team-high three goals and dished one assist for four points.
Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) tallied two goals and two assists plus four draw controls for the Ospreys.
Stockton held a slim 5-4 lead with 14:04 gone in the game. Toal potted two markers while Pascrell,
Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and
Holly Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) netted one goal apiece.
Montclair State then took control with five straight tallies for a 9-4 count. Toal ended the run with her third goal of the first half but the Red Hawks responded by scoring twice in the last 26 seconds of the half to make it an 11-6 game.
Montclair notched the first three goals of the second half for a 14-6 deficit from which Stockton could not recover. Pascrell and Jandras each contributed their second goal of the game while
Allie Bremer (Oakland/Indian Hills) and
Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) also scored in the second stanza.
Overall, the Ospreys were outscored 9-4 in the second half and suffered the 20-10 defeat that brought the season to a close. Three of Stockton's five losses this spring came against nationally-ranked opponents.
Stockton equaled Montclair 31-31 in shots but the Ospreys were stymied by Red Hawks' goalkeeper Allyn Lilien who made 16 saves.
Jessica Catalioto (Ringwood/Lakeland Regional) paced the Ospreys defensively with game highs of six ground balls and four caused turnovers plus a team-high five draw controls.
