Stockton Dispatches Kean 3-0 in NJAC Quarterfinals

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (3-1-2) advanced to the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Kean University (1-4-1) in a quarterfinal round match at G. Larry James Stadium. Three different Ospreys scored in the victory.

After nearly 33 scoreless minutes, Heather Bertollo (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) knocked in a corner kick by Kiersten Reszkowski (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) from only a couple yards off the goal line to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead with 12:06 left in the first half.

Stockton later put the game away with two more counters in the second half. Just 5:22 into the period, Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) juked a defender with a sudden change of direction to create some space. LeDonne then blasted a left-footed shot from the right wing that found the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Alexa Simonetti (Wayne/Wayne Valley) later volleyed a loose ball past drawn-out Cougars' goalie Marissa Cook and into the open side with 15:18 remaining to cap the 3-0 triumph for the Ospreys.

Stockton goalkeeper Kylee Sullivan (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) needed just two easy saves, one in each half, to record her second consecutive shutout and third of the year. Sullivan, who has not allowed a goal in the last 240:12 of game action, lowered her goals against average to a miniscule 0.25 for the season.

Stockton outshot the Cougars 16-3 and Cook finished with three saves as in the match. LeDonne paced the Ospreys with six shots.

No. 3 seed Stockton will travel to No. 2 seed Montclair State on Saturday for an NJAC Tournament semifinal that kicks off at 11 a.m. The teams played a 0-0 draw in their regular season meeting nearly a month ago.
