Galloway, N.J. – Two Stockton University student-athletes were selected for NJAC weekly honors for their play last week. Senior
Rico Viani (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) was named NJAC Pitcher of the Week in baseball, while freshman
Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) was selected as NJAC Rookie of the Week for softball.
Viani and Patterson each earned NJAC weekly awards for the first time in their careers and did so for their play in NJAC Tournament games last week.
Viani had a great end to his season as he tossed 6.1 innings against #9 Rowan University last Friday. He scattered six hits, allowed just one earned run and struck out four in posting his team-leading third win of the season as the Ospreys took game one of the three-game quarterfinal round series 8-6.
Viani finished his season with a sterling 2.25 ERA (4th in NJAC) and for his career, the senior leads all Osprey pitchers all-time with a 2.51 ERA in 100.1 innings of work. Stockton finished the season with an 11-15 record, including two wins over ranked opponents.
Patterson helped No. 6 seed Stockton to a doubleheader sweep over No. 3 seed Montclair State in the NJAC Tournament quarterfinals last week. The rookie was 3-6 (.500) with two doubles and two RBI in the two games. Patterson also had a slugging percentage of .833.
For the season, Patterson leads the team and the NJAC with five home runs and stands second on the team with 19 RBI (8th in NJAC) and five doubles. Stockton will play a three-game series at 16th-ranked The College of New Jersey in the NJAC Tournament semifinals tomorrow and Wednesday.
