Galloway, N.J. – Three Stockton University softball players received
NJAC all-conference honors for the 2021 season. Senior
Meg Murzello (Maple Shade/Holy Cross) was chosen NJAC First Team while junior
Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) and senior
Angie Dunphy (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) were selected NJAC Second Team.
Murzello earned her second career all-conference accolade, following up on an NJAC Second Team nod in 2018. James collected her second consecutive NJAC Second Team nod. Dunphy picked up all-conference recognition for the first time.
Murzello has had another outstanding season, starting all 24 games, and leading the Ospreys with 28 hits, 23 runs and 18 stolen bases. The left fielder has also contributed a .359 batting average, three doubles, one triple and her second career home run.
Murzello has been just as good during conference play with a .359 average, 25 hits (6th in NJAC), 21 runs (2nd in NJAC) and a league-leading 15 steals in NJAC play. She is tied for third in Stockton history with 92 runs, third with 59 stolen bases and 10th with a career .367 batting average.
James boasts a .306 average, 22 hits, three home runs and a team-leading 20 RBI. The slick-fielding shortstop has made just one error in 116 chances for a .991 fielding percentage with league highs of 82 assists and a role in in six double plays.
The junior has been outstanding in NJAC play with a .357 batting average, a pair of homers, 18 RBI (T-3rd in NJAC) and a .571 slugging percentage.
Dunphy has had a breakout season with a team-leading .368 batting average and 23 hits, second on the team to Murzello, plus nine runs and four doubles. The right fielder also was better in NJAC play with a superb .393 batting average in 18 conference games. All 23 of her hits and nine RBI came in league play.
In 61 games in an Osprey uniform, Dunphy has 47 hits, including six doubles, 24 runs and a career .303 batting average.
Stockton finished 8-16 overall, including 8-10 in conference play. The Ospreys are the No. 6 seed for the NJAC Tournament and will play a best-of-three quarterfinal series at No. 3 seed Montclair State this weekend on May 7-8.
