The Stockton volleyball team will have a different look this season but will have a nice mix of youth and veterans. Seven freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and six seniors will make up the 2021 squad for seven-time NJAC Coach of the Year
Allison Walker. The Ospreys will be looking to defend the NJAC championship that they won the last two seasons.
Â
The Ospreys will be led by a pair of NJAC First Team hitters in seniors
Charlotte Leon and
Haley Green. Leon added last spring's NJAC First Team nod to an NJAC Second Team spot in 2019. She finished third in the NJAC in kills (2.95/set), fourth in hitting percentage (.371) and sixth in points (3.16/set) during the brief spring slate.
Â
Fellow senior Green broke out during Stockton's unbeaten 7-0 campaign, leading the league in kills (3.43/set) and ranking second in hitting percentage (.403) plus third in points (3.50/set). Green reached double figures in six of the seven matches last spring.
Â
Adding to the outside hitters will be senior
Caity Ullmer, junior
Noelle Langish and sophomore
Emma Capriglione. Ullmer has played in 66 career matches, totaling 257 kills, 216 digs and 68 blocks. Langish has 11 matches of college experience so far while Capriglione spiked seven kills in two matches during her abbreviated rookie year.
Â
A trio of talented freshmen will compete for time in the middle hitter spot.
Jaylah Rolle,
Krista Blassman and
Teleyah Witherspoon will take over at a position where Stockton must replace a pair of four-year letter winners.
Â
Sophomore
Aubrey Rentzel will take over as the main setter but is expected to share time with
Alice Brandt and freshman
Amber Medina. Rentzel dished 20 assists with seven aces and 12 digs in her first year while Brandt served six aces, dished nine assists, and added 29 digs.
Â
Brandt has been versatile throughout her career, contributing at setter and in the back row. The senior has totaled 499 assists, 353 digs and 59 aces in 87 matches for the Ospreys.
Â
Defensively the Ospreys will be solid, starting with
Sophia Marziello returning at libero. The senior led the team with 58 digs and served six aces last season. Marziello enters this year with 696 career digs in 94 college matches.
Â
Fellow senior
Grace Brandt is back after snagging 49 digs in the spring. Brandt has played in 96 matches as an Osprey, the most of any player on the roster, and totaled 458 career digs.
Â
Sophomore
Molly Eng and freshmen
Kathryn Zanvettor,
Olivia Bereza and
Grace Woll will add to the deep core of defenders. Eng played in three matches off the bench as a rookie.
