Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University opened the 2021 cross country season by hosting the Stockton Memorial Invitational. The Ospreys ran along with a handful of runners from Rutgers-Camden and Camden County College.
Sam Tenenbaum (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) won the men's 6K race by nine seconds in a field of 25 runners with a time of 20:13.19 while
Jessie Klenk (Somerdale/Sterling) won the women's 5K race by seven seconds in a field of 21 competitors with a time of 19:34.07.
In his first race as an Osprey, junior
Brandon Shymanski (Brick/Brick Memorial) finished second at 20:22.24.
Stephen Conte (Washington Twp./Paul VI) placed fourth with a time of 20:36.60 followed by a pair of newcomers.
Clayton Engle (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) finished fifth at the 20:45.23 mark followed by
Erik Ackerman (Long Valley/West Morris Central) in the sixth spot at 20:57.00.
Led by Klenk, the Stockton women's team produced the top seven finishers.
Olivia Harris (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) was the runner-up with a time of 19:41.16 and
Kierstin Clem (Voorhees/Eastern) placed third at 19:46.50.
Freshman
Marlee Tharp (Tuckerton/Pinelands) crossed the line at 19:47.02 for fourth place and
Jamie Wun (Moorestown/Moorestown) rounded out Stockton's top five in the fifth spot at 20:05.75.
Stockton will host another race in two weeks on September 25 with the women's NJAIAW Championship at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men's Osprey Open at 11:15 a.m.
