Camden, NJ – Stockton University (2-4) took on Catholic University (3-1) in the Rutgers-Camden Cialella Soccer Classic on Sunday, with the Cardinals coming away with a 2-1 victory in two overtimes.
Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Heights/Hasbrouck Heights) scored the only tally of the day for the Ospreys.
Â
Stockton caught an early break in the first half, when
Peter Kozlej (Toms River/Toms River East) was pulled down inside the box, setting up the penalty kick for Gjeli. He converted for his third goal of the year and a 1-0 advantage 4:27 into the game. The match would remain that way through the end of the first half and for most of the second frame.

Catholic finally knotted the game at the 87:13 mark. After a corner kick, a scramble for the ball ensued in front of the Stockton net, when Gordon Bernlohr found the loose ball and scored for the 1-1 draw.
Â
In the first overtime the teams traded shots, with both sailing high, until the last minute of play. The Cardinals fired two shots on net, including an attempt with one second remaining, but
Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) was able to keep the match knotted at 1-1.
Â
Catholic kept the pressure on in the second extra period and ended the match 1:29 into the period. Paul Egan took a cross from Bernlohr and hit the back of the net for the 2-1 victory.
Â
Gromitsaris made two saves for Stockton in net, with Austin Coron making one save for Catholic.
