Madison, N.J. – Stockton University (1-0) scored four goals in the first 13 minutes and rolled to an 8-1 victory over Manhattanville (0-2) in the season opener, which took place at the Drew University Fall Festival.
Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph) led the Ospreys with three goals for a hat trick.
Madison Maguire (Swedesboro/Kingsway) scored twice while
Tori Wilson (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) contributed a goal and two assists.
Kelsey Andrus (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) and
Jenna Fiorito (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) each netted their first career goal in the rout.
Morganti potted her first marker just 1:53 into the game with an assist by Wilson. Maguire followed with her first goal of the day 1:28 later to make it 2-0. Morganti struck again at the 9:54 mark and Fiorito earned her first point at the college level with the assist.
Andrus banged home a rebound with 2:29 left in the first quarter for her first career tally and a commanding 4-0 advantage. After Manhattanville got on the board in the second quarter, Morganti completed her hat trick, again with an assist by Wilson.
Maguire added her second counter of the game with 1:34 left in the second quarter and freshman
Dakota Ludman (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) assisted for her first career point. Stockton led 6-1 at the half after scoring six goals on 12 shots.
Wilson found the back of the net 3:26 into the third period and Morganti collected the assist. Stockton's eighth and final goal of the afternoon marked a pair of firsts as Fiorito scored her first career goal and freshman
Jamilyn Hawkins (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) notched her first career point with the assist.
Goalkeepers
Alley Harris (Mullica Hill/Delsea) and
Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) each played a half for the Ospreys, with Mitchell making two saves, both in the fourth quarter.
Stockton will face tournament-host Drew University tomorrow at 2 p.m. as the Drew Fall Festival continues.
