Stockton Draws With Westfield State 0-0

Union, NJ – Stockton University (0-1-1) played their second match in two days at the Kean Cougar Classic and came away with a 0-0 draw against Westfield State (1-0-1) on Saturday afternoon. Heather Bertollo (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) fired off four shots, with three on net to lead the Ospreys. The match was tightly contested with Stockton holding a slim 12-10 margin in shots with five being on net.

Bertollo gave Stockton an early opportunity when she fired a shot that was deflected at 19:43. Kendra Cirino (Midland Park/Midland Park) followed that up 11 seconds later but could not find the net. Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany had a third attempt a little over a minute later, but that too was kicked away and the half ended scoreless.

Bertollo and Jessica Heitmann (Rockaway/Morris Knolls) kept up the pressure in the second half with a combined total of three shots, two by Heitmann. Again, Westfield State was staunch on defense and sent the match to overtime.

In the first extra frame, Bertollo was able to squeeze off a pair of attempts with one being saved by Westfield goalkeeper Sarah Fuller. Westfield had one last opportunity in the second overtime, but Kylee Sullivan (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made the save to preserve the shutout and the draw.

Sullivan made three saves in positing her first shutout of the season for Stockton. Lauryn Davis played the first 65:00 in net making four saves before giving way to Fuller. Fuller kicked out one shot in the final 45 minutes for Westfield State.

Stockton will play the first of three straight home matches on Tuesday night when the Ospreys take on Drew University at G. Larry James Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
