The Stockton University volleyball team went through a transition year in 2021. The Ospreys had six seniors, but they also had seven freshmen plus three sophomores whose rookie season was shortened to just seven matches due to COVID. With several inexperienced players tasked with filling key roles, Stockton won 16 matches and reached the NJAC Tournament semifinals.
Â
Senior
Charlotte Leon closed out her career in fine fashion with an ACVA All-America Honorable Mention spot, becoming the 12th Stockton player ever to earn All-America status and extending Stockton's streak to 11 straight seasons with at least one All-American. Leon added that honor to AVCA All-Region 4 and NJAC First Team nods.
Â
Leon led the team with 3.20 kills per set (5th in NJAC), 3.57 points per set (7th in NJAC) and a .218 hitting percentage. She also finished second on the team with 81 blocks (5th in NJAC).
Â
Sophomore
Emma Capriglione garnered an NJAC Second Team nod for her fine all-around play. Capriglione was second on the team behind Leon with 2.62 kills per set and 3.02 points per set. The second-year player also posted 170 digs and 30 blocks.
Â
Senior
Caity Ullmer finished third on the team with 226 kills.
Haley Green unfortunately was limited to just eight matches due to injury but provided a reminder of the skill that got her a 2020 NJAC First Team nod with averages of 2.59 points and 2.45 kills per set in her limited action.
Â
Sophomore
Aubrey Rentzel took the reins of the Stockton offense at setter and dished 915 assists. Rentzel also placed second on the team with 299 digs and 44 aces to go with 69 kills. She dealt at least 20 assists in 26 of Stockton's 33 matches.
Â
Senior
Sophia Marziello eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark for her career and topped the squad with 3.76 digs per set, ranking eighth in the NJAC. The senior scooped a total of 459 and served 50 aces to lead the Ospreys in both.
Â
Senior
Alice Brandt scooped 250 digs in the back row and also chipped in offensively with 179 assists and 37 aces. Fellow senior
Grace Brandt snagged 234 digs and served 26 aces. The Brandt twins exit the program after each playing 120 matches or more while Leon leaves after 121 appearances in an Osprey uniform.
Â
Sophomore
Molly Eng added to Stockton's depth in the back row with 182 digs and 34 aces as she apprenticed alongside the trio of seniors before possibly moving into a role anchoring the back row next year.
Â
A pair of newcomers helped the front line at middle hitter as
Teleyah Witherspoon, and
Jaylah Rolle posted some impressive numbers. Witherspoon, an NJAC Rookie of the Week honoree once, led the team and finished seventh in the NJAC in blocks (0.74 bps).
Â
Offensively, Witherspoon registered 150 kills, a .208 hitting percentage and 22 blocks. Rolle spiked 106 kills, produced 76 blocks and served 15 aces in her rookie campaign.
